ORANGE AND BLUE VELVET BEER BUNDT CAKE

This bundt cake was inspired by a beer, because, you se, my piano teacher is always innovating and its last creation was this craft beer: “Blue Velvet”.

It is an artistic beer based on wheat Belgian beers. It’s aromatic and refreshing, made of different kinds of barley and wheat malts, as well as natural citrus including Spanish oranges; coriander seeds and juniper berries.

I really like it, is perfect to drink with foods or on its own. Here you have the link to the web, where you can find everything related to the beer.

And now, let’s go with the recipe.

The cake is very smooth and moist. With an original flavor, with a touch of orange.

For a good result, it’s very important that all the ingredients are at room temperature.

Ingredients:
5 eggs M
350 g flour (12.3 oz)
250 g sugar (8.8 oz)
165 g butter (5,8 oz)
150 ml “Blue Velvet” beer (I know it’s not easy to find it, so you can use a Belgian beer)
105 ml cream
2 teaspoons of baking soda
Orange zest (from one orange)
The juice of half of an orange
½ teaspoon of orange-flower water

Mix the flour and the baking soda, sift and reserve.

Pour the beer into a pot and heat it up until all the alcohol evaporates, then let it cool down. This step is very important, so it doesn’t ruin the final result.

Preheat the oven at 175ºC degrees and greased the mold.
Mix the sugar with the orange zest.
Mix the butter with the sugar until it is creamy.
Add the eggs, one by one until the get integrated.
Add the orange-flower water.
Add the cream and mix.
Then add half of the dry ingredients and mix.
Pour the beer and the orange juice, mix and finally add the rest of dry ingredients.
Pour the batter into a suitable mold (mine is from Nordic Ware) and bake it for 35-40 minutes, until a tooth stick comes out clean.

Let it cool down for at least 30 minutes in a rack.

Finally take it out from the mold.
